A World of Violence and Tragedies
Our Lord Jesus predicted in Luke 21:25 (ASV) a sequence of events that occur during the End Times. It states “distress of nations in perplexity….” According to both Strong’s and Young’s Concordances, the Greek text literally means “no way out.” The following events prove we are living in this “no way out” time frame.
One of the tragedies of our world in 2014-2015 was the devastating weather in the US. On May 10, 2015, more than 100 tornadoes in 24 hours ripped across the Midwest. Houses, barns, and buildings of all kinds flew through the air in thousands of pieces. Texas was parched by the worst drought on record plus record-breaking tornadoes. CNN reported that nearly 100 million were at risk of the tornadoes. There were 5 deaths in just one tornado. One weekend suffered 70 tornadoes. Then 180 tornadoes followed in a 2 week period. Chicago tied a 140-year record for the coldest February. Snow in Boston, MA, broke all records—108.6 inches of snow. Imagine what happened to the roofs of many houses. In fact, most of New England had devastating accumulations of snow.
Across the globe a 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck in Nepal. Just over 2 weeks after, a massive magnitude 7.8 quake killed more than 8,000 people while 17,860 were injured. Lack of rain has parched southern California. Unable to solve the problem they sought the help of Israeli industrialists, government experts, and academics on advanced water technologies and long-term strategies to lessen the effects of its continual drought. One example is the $1 billion ocean-water desalination plant Israel’s IDE Technologies is building to provide 50 million gallons of water daily in the San Diego area. But that’s just a trickle compared to the flood of joint projects with Israeli scientists that will increase in the coming dry years. Israeli scientists are in demand all over the world.
Israel’s population is just 8.3 million, while California’s is 38.8 million. Yet California is dependent on little Israel’s know-how to implement many aspects of “Israel’s proven holistic approach to technology and water management,” says Yossi Yaacoby, director of the WaTech innovation center for Mekorot, Israel’s national water-management consortium. He continues, “We have many unique time proven solutions we can take together to overcome the lengthening cycles of drought we are expecting.”
Has the European Union Failed? The Hoover Institution makes the case, “the EU is unraveling, One Europe is finished.” For a nation to survive, its women must produce on average 2.1 children. Europe has not seen that high a fertility rate in 40 years. Today, it is down to 1.6 children.
Europeans are an aging and disappearing race that is being replaced by growing numbers of un-assimilated Muslim immigrants from North Africa, many of whom treat democracy with contempt. Also, many Muslims in Europe have joined other anti-Semitics in their age old violence against the Jews. Consequently, in 2015 over 15,000 Jews are expected to move to Israel. For centuries the nations of Europe professed Christianity, but today Christian profession is a shadow of its former self. New political parties are surging. Opposition to a united Europe is increasing. What an indication of lack of interest in a continued European Union!!
Martin Luther King Jr. Had a Dream. A few decades after his death in 1968, especially in the North, racial discrimination between blacks and whites was, for the most part, seemingly conquered. Shockingly, on July 17, 2014, five white New York policemen attacked an unarmed black man, Eric Garner, for the horrible crime of selling untaxed cigarettes on the street. With an illegal strangle hold around his neck, the policemen threw Gardner onto the sidewalk and pushed his face into the sidewalk as he cried, “I can’t breathe! I can’t breathe!” He died. Charges were filed against the policemen.
Within a month hundreds of demonstrations against police brutality, especially of blacks, occurred around the country. The climax of police brutality toward blacks was in Baltimore. Mass demonstrations were so violent that martial law was declared. State troopers patrolled the streets during this state of emergency and nightly curfew. Why? Since 2010, 109 people have been killed by Maryland police and 40% of them were unarmed and nearly 70% were black. Racial hatred has been hiding just below the surface of reality.
Jews, Not Palestinian Arabs—Burned Alive. When it comes to Israel, Western public opinion believes all the false stories of Palestinian civilians burned by non-existent phosphorus bombs of the Israeli army. The West not only ignored all the buses, restaurants, cafeteria and commercial malls where the Israeli Jews were burned alive by Palestinian suicide bombers. It never condemned them. A month ago a young Israeli girl was purposely burned alive in a terror attack in Samaria. She hovered between life and death, totally ignored by the West. (Arutz Sheva News, Feb. 16, 2015) In Israel there are children with burned faces, unusable hands, and people who say they do not want to live anymore because they still feel the smell of burning flesh.
And what about Ilan Halimi, the first victim of the new wave of anti-Semitism in France, a Jewish boy kidnapped, tortured for two weeks and then burned alive?
The Center for American Progress Observes: That the 50 worst nations persecuting Christians are Muslim. “The one glaring fact concerning the persecution of approximately 100 million Christians around the world today is that the overwhelming majority of it is committed by Muslims of all races, nationalities, languages, and socio-political circumstances.” This fact is underscored in ‘Open Doors’ recent 2015 World Watch List—a report that highlights and ranks the 50 nations persecuting Christians the most. “It finds that ‘Islamic extremism’ is the main source of persecution in 40 of the top 50 countries—that is, 80 percent of the nations where Christians are persecuted are Muslim. As for the top ten worst countries persecuting Christians, nine of them are Muslim-majority—that is, 90 percent of the nations where Christians experience extreme persecution are Muslim.”
Anti-Semitism Terrorizing Europe. Since the European nations were once the colonial powers that ruled North Africa, the Islamic North African natives who have immigration rights are flooding into Europe with their Islamic culture of anti-Semitism. Anti-Defamation League National Director Abraham Foxman said that although anti-Semitism was not yet at the same levels as it was immediately prior to the Holocaust, Jews are certainly being subjected to the worst levels of hatred since then.
“It’s not like the thirties, but it’s the worst it’s been since the 30s,” Foxman said. It has a dimension of terrorism, jihadism. “If you can be killed in the streets of Europe, if you’re identifiably Jewish-- that’s as critical as it can be.”
Consequently, Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu sent out a worldwide appeal for all Jews to return to Israel, their historic homeland and the surest escape from anti-Semitism. The Jewish Agency expects over 15,000 Jews from Europe will immigrate to Israel in 2015.
Churchianity Is on the Decline. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York is reducing the total number of parishes from 199 in 2009 to 187 in 2014. Seemingly, these are heady days for Roman Catholics who dominated Latin America. For the first time one of their own is serving as pope. But after a century in which nearly all Latin Americans identified as Catholics, the church’s claim is lessening. A new survey conducted by the Pew Research Center finds that only 69% of Latin American adults say they are Catholic, which is down from an estimated 90% for much of the 20th century. The decline appears to be accelerating. There has been a 15% decline in just one generation.
Protestants are faring no better. Eight years ago the Southern Baptist denomination was the fastest growing denomination in the US, but like all other denominations, its membership is declining and has declined for the seventh straight year.
David W. Key Sr., director of Baptist studies at Emory University, said “the declines are not surprising. They mirror an overall decline of membership in Protestant churches that has been going on for a couple of decades.” It was observed, “Our society is just not what it used to be. When I grew up there was a challenge by parents…that our sons and daughters would be in church….That day and time is gone forever.” Why? Modern man is much less inclined to think he is a sinner.
Jihadi Fighters and ISIS. The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) officially claims to have formed a global Islamic caliphate. Its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, claims he is ruler “by order of God.” He also claims to be the successor to the Islamic prophet Muhammad and as head of ISIS claims Muhammad’s power and authority.
Vile abuses are a normal way of life by the members of ISIS. ISIS tries to commit horrendous atrocities in order to terrify all opposition into a paralysis of resistance.
We have entered an absolute unbelievable era of modern history reminiscent of the “Middle Ages” with its inhuman torture chambers. Regardless of the debate as to the correct definition of Jihad, ISIS defines Jihad to justify its horrendous commitment to violence: sexual abuse, murder, chopping off body parts while the victims are alive, etc. What a diabolical way of life led by the members of ISIS. Actually ISIS fighters want to die. Why? For reasons that are too obnoxious to even put into print. Many believe the US sending a limited amount of troops from time to time to stop ISIS will fail.
ISIS has seemingly come out of nowhere to become the wealthiest terrorist organization in the world, surpassing long time active organizations such as al-Qaeda, the Taliban, Islamic Jihad, and Hezbollah. ISIS is charging across Iraq like wildfire, seizing key cities and much of the country’s oil wells as it surges eastward. By Satan’s help, ISIS now claims to be worth 2 billion dollars.
Psalm 83:3-8. Psalm 83 names many Arab nations that form an alliance that is at war against Israel and Israel’s God. In this war the Arab nations will be defeated and will finally realize the God of Israel is the only true God. Yes, ISIS and all the Islamic terror groups like al-Qaeda, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah will be defeated by Israel.
The conditions in the world are so horrendous that Jeremiah 14:17 (ISV) says God cries. God doesn’t literally cry, but why does he permit conditions on earth to be so horrendous?
